Ivor the Invisible (Abet Easy Readers) ReviewThis is a short junior graphic novel (comic book), but reads more like it is the storyboard submitted to investors for the animated film then a complete story. Since the cover mentions this is also available on VHS and DVD I think that's exactly what it is. It is a good basic story which I think would make an excellent movie but reading the book you've got to sort of guess a lot of the time what happened (which means you would have to explain to the little kids who the book is aimed at as they read it what actually happened in a lot of the scenes). I have no doubt this would make a great children's movie, I mean many kids have invisible friends so they could relate to the main character John who has many a child fantasy come true, so I'd grab this story as a copy of the DVD instead.
John is in bed and feels someone jump on him, he tells them to get off only to discover there's no one there. Suddenly his bedroom mirror is vandalised with the misspelled message be my frend, followed by dont tel ennwon Throughout the day John's new friend (certainly not the brightest he has ever had) is very annoying and causes much trouble for him and those around him. John asks his invisible friend its name and it writes NO as best it can which John mistakes for the name Ivor. "Ivor" gets up to a lot of mayhem at school and around town. John accepts Ivor for all his faults but Ivor has a big secret, a secret that goes against everything John believes in! Can John remain friends with Ivor once he learns the truth?Ivor the Invisible (Abet Easy Readers) OverviewOne Saturday morning John wakes up to find an invisible something sitting on the end of his bed. The something seems to be gigantic but John can't work out just how big it is. He tries to measure it, but the invisible giant won't let him. When John asks this strange new friend its name, the letters IVO appear on his mirror, so John decides to call him Ivor. The invisible giant plays tricks on John's mum and dad, whizzing the washing line round, spraying the neighbours with a hose pipe and stealing the cherries from the trifle when Auntie Barbara comes to tea. But he can be helpful too: he hoovers the carpets and even does the washing up. When Ivor tells John that he wants to go out with him, John takes him to the park where he gets up to even more mischief. but it is when John takes Ivor to school that the trouble really starts..."Ivor the Invisible" accompanies the film of the same name produced by Screen First for Channel 4. For the first time, Raymond Briggs has written a story especially for the screen and this book uses images based on his original drawings, selected and compiled by Sue Tong.
