Cinema 4D, Third Edition: The Artist's Project Sourcebook ReviewThis book states exactly what it is on the cover - "A tutorial-based exploration of the basics and beyond" - and that's exactly what it delivers. With beautiful color illustrations on every page and step-by-step instructions, beginners like myself new to Cinema 4d will be hard-pressed to find a better companion to the world of NURBS, splines, modeling, rigging, lighting, rendering and Mograph. Did I mention the chapters on cameras, expresso, bodypaint and type? Yes, there is a lot to Cinema 4d, and this book does an excellent job of walking the newbie through each concept with basic tutorials. I also enjoyed the breakaway sections "Cinema 4d in production" at several points through the book. Each section highlighting examples of Cinema 4d use in the real world. The coverage and extremely high quality of presentation allowed me to overlook to somewhat gimmicky 3d glassed glued to the inside cover (yes there is a chapter on Stereoscopic Content Creation). The DVD is packed full of project examples and bonus reading materials in the same colorful style, albeit in PDF format. This book isn't for everyone, it's too basic and doesn't use enough real estate for the underlying concepts and techniques that I'd imagine intermediate and advanced users would like to see.
