Chill Your Cockles ReviewJohn Derhak's follow-up book to his highly enjoyable "Tales From The moe.Republic" is a positive, new step in his writing career. As opposed to his first novel, which was based on a collection of letters & e-mails sent to his brother, "Cockles" is written in a more standard narrative form. It consists of 3 short stories & one monster of a tale (The Bones Of Lazarus) as well as a hilarious intro written in his earlier style.

The premise being that these tales were submitted by local townsfolk at the annual Ghost Storytellers Contest held every Hallowen at the moe.Republic Hotel (a concept introduced in his first work). The 3 shorter stories provide more than enough frights to keep the reader on the edge of his or her seat. As excellent as those tales are, however, it is in "The Bones Of Lazarus" where the author does, without a doubt, his best work. A long, gripping tale with countless twists & turns, it is the essence of horror & intrigue. Mr. Derhak has that special ability, that only the great writers have, of not only allowing you to visualize the action, but to also make you feel that the story is actually happening around you. You can see, hear, smell & taste all the terror as it occurs in the godawful place where the story is set. This collection is a true masterpiece that any horror fan would treasure.
