One of the pleasures of being a guest there was listening to Dick and Pam Matthews tell stories of innkeeping, stories that reflected their tellers' humor, common sense, and charm. "Notes" is replete with such stories and has a lot to teach both aspiring innkeepers and aspiring guests. It is also well paced and well written. Matthews explains at the book's beginning that he was a writer and editor long before he and his wife began their bed-and-breakfast adventure.
